The debt of the communities to make up a record 11.4% of GDP


The debt of the community has set a record at the close of the first quarter after reaching 121,420 million, representing a rise of 26.4% over the same period last year, when the figure was 96.042 million .

According to the Bank of Spain published Friday, the ratio of debt to GDP of the communities reached 11.4%, compared to 9.1% a year ago and 10.9% the previous quarter. For the first time in the time series offered by the Bank of Spain (since 1995) that the ratio of debt to GDP exceeds 11%. Catalonia is the region most indebted, with 34.323 million euros.

The debt of all the government, meanwhile, grew by 17.5% to 679.779 million euros, also an absolute record in history. According to data released Friday by the Bank of Spain, this debt represents 63.6% of GDP, which in this case constitutes its highest level since March 1999. A year ago was 55%.

Most of the debt accumulated central government, with 521.007 million euros, 76% of the total, registering an increase of 16.8% last year.
